London-based Time Magazine journalist Billy Perrigo tracked me down in Soho while we were mixing the film, and interviewed me for his excellent article about Dave Brubeck’s role as a Jazz Ambassador to Poland, and his subsequent collaboration with Louis Armstrong on “The Real Ambassadors” jazz opera, that debuted at Monterey Jazz Festival in 1962. Polish sax powerhouse Sylwester Ostrowski organized an unforgettable evening in the beautiful Radio Szczecin concert hall on Feb 5th. In addition to a rousing performance by the Wynton Marsalis Orchestra, Darius Brubeck performed a very moving tribute to his father Dave Brubeck’s tour of Poland 60 years earlier in 1958. He ended his set with an emotional rendition of “Dziekuje”, written by Dave during his tour, to thank Polish audiences for their generosity.
